About Me

My name is Elise White Diaz and I am originally from the Seattle area. After studying Political Science and Latin American Studies at the University of Washington I spent three months in Guatemala City working with child laborers in the city dump. I fell in love with the children there and decided that I had found my life calling. I returned to the states to study at Fuller Theological Seminary because I wanted to learn about development from a Christian perspective. Then one day a good-looking jock wandered into my coffee shop and began discussing critical theory feminism with me.

After a long pursuit (on my part), we fell in love and were married a year later. Right before we were both to graduate with a Master's Degree in Intercultural Studies and to begin our careers serving the poor in a developing country, my dad called. He is the founder and pastor of a large inter-denominatonal church and wanted both of us to come work for him. We prayed about it and then ended up heading North, instead of South, as we previously planned.

But after four years of God's shaping and molding us at Washington Cathedral they decided to send us to Tegucigalpa to work with a Honduran-lead project rescuing children from the city dump (AFE).

So here we find ourselves. And also with one more: Elijah is a spirited toddler who takes too much after me. The reality is that I don't know what I'm doing as a mother and I'm proud to share about that on my blog. I hate reading mommy blogs about how to make organic baby food. You'll find none of that here. Perhaps you'll laugh, perhaps you'll relate, just don't call CPS on me (because raising an unusally high maintenance toddler in another country is more challenging than you might think).

Our goal down here is three-fold: to make it out alive, learn and grow alot, and love these people we've come to serve. Enjoy my stories and pray for us if you get a chance.
